The premiere of Nike SB’s Debacle, at Cinema Paradiso, was quite the scene. M.I.A., Shred Shed, 561 Skateboarding, and BC Surf & Skate showed what putting in work for the South Florida skate family is. Kids from all over South Florida got to see Nike SB’s Debacle the way all the skateboard O.G.’s knew it was supposed to be shown.
Evolution is so ill. Every generation of skaters further unlocks the true reality for the next. Flowing over time like water over rock, skateboarders keep breaking it down. Particle by particle, the concrete jungle is screaming and the streets are on fire. They can’t stop us.
Now you see that life is eternal skateboard matrix. Nike SB realized this and has been on some mad scientist shit in the lab with the new breed. Skateboarding and skate cinematography have grown up side by side and now here we are. It’s the end of the world and we’ve finally figured out that the only limitations holding the youth back are the ones they let the grown ups bullshit them into believing.
The premiere of Nike SB’s Debacle, in HD, is a thorough example of the quality of yield one harvests when they inject the scene with positivity, support, and extremely high caliber production. These cats are making good ass use of their imaginations and the terrain. All the years of skaters visualizing scenes that needed to be put down and playing those scenes out with fingers and invisible fingerboards, and working toward these realities are adding up. After school, after work, after whatever. The collective absorbed all that and it’s all real.
The whole lineup in Debacle is ill. David Clark, Daryl Angel, Theotis Beasley, Shayne O’Neal, and Justin Brock are all nasty rippers. Grant Taylor skates fast as fuck. Tre flips in HD that left tracers slicing through my retinas? Kickflip over the fire hydrant gap and land perfect in the yellow and orange leaf colored street in autumtime? Are you serious? That shit was 3D’d out. I was crouched down in front of the screen overdosing on sour patch kids while it got poured all over my eyes.
Debacle was not what you were expecting. Nike SB busted out with some rippers you might not be used to sweating. These cats are not dabbling in the art. They are living this, and showing you how it’s supposed to be done. Put down all your accessories and SKATE.
